What is it like to be dead?

"What is it like to be dead?" is a question that is often asked. It is answered in many different ways depending on what people believe at the time. Awaretheory has a very simple answer based on a very complex set of new sciences which are based on and coherent with all other sciences based on materialism. The simple answer to the question "What is it like to be dead?" is that it is like what you are experiencing now. This might seem contradictory because being dead is not supposed not be like being alive. If you understand the science behind awaretheory it makes scientific sense. When a material body has the right structure and then is functioning correctly it is producing consciousness. When it no longer has the right structure and functioning it no longer produces consciousness. When a person dies his/her body no longer produces consciousness. If you are not conscious you are not aware of being not conscious. You can only be aware of being conscious. There are different levels of consciousness, some more clear, intense, or aware, than others. It is not like anything to be dead. But his is not the end of the story. Awaretheory predicts that to produce a consciousness that you will experience there has to be the right structure and functioning of matter. There are many reasons to believe that there are a very large amount of different structures and functioning of matter (different itobodies) that will produce different consciousnesses that you will expereince when ever they are produced. A body that produced a consciousness that you experienced could have and probably did exist in the past but is now dead. So in a very real sense you are dead but yet you are experiencing consciousness produced in another body. So what is it like to be dead? You are not aware of long periods on not being conscious. If the last body that produced a consciousness that you experience was thousands or even billions of years ago you would not be aware of this passing of time. It will seem like you are always conscious thus it will seem like you are immortal even though each life will be finite in length. This eliminates many of the problems associated with immortality like bordom, depression, apathy, limited resources, etc. Any part of any consciousness that you have or could have experienced could be repeated any number of times. What you are experiencing right could have existed any number of times in the past and can exist any amount of time in the future. Awaretheory predicts that the consciousness you are experiencing now can be produced in other bodies now as well. If one or more of these bodies die you are still conscious and alive. Again "What is it like to be dead?" it is for sure what you are experiencing now but it also could be a lot more.

Since there are a very large amount of structures and functionings of matter that will produce a consciousness that you experience when they exist and they can exist independently of each other and at the same time "What is it like to be dead?" can be much more than just what your simple limited version of yourself is experiencing at this moment!
