The concept of "Continuity of a body" is often used as a criterion for the continuity of the [[conscious self]] through space and time. The continuity of a body means that there is a singular unique body that is continuously existing for a period of time. The matter that exists in this body may change over time but there is an [[assimilation speed of matter]] so that there is never all new matter in the body at any one time. If this body is suddenly made of all new matter, according to this theory it will not longer produce a consciousness that you experience.  Many people believe that continuity of the body is what is necessary for perpetuating the "conscious self" through space and time. What this concept creates is the singularity of the conscious self; there will be just one body that can ever produce a particular [[ixperiencitness]]. Subjectively, this means that if this body is yours, you are tied solely to its existence and not to any other body. When this body dies your conscious self permanently dies as well. This theory contrasts with the [[science of superimmortality]] that predicts that what is important is not the body but the [[structure and functioning of the body]]. The body produces continuity of [[structure and functioning]]. This continuity of [[structure and functioning]] creates continuity of [[consciousness]] and sameness of [[ixperiencitness]].
