Religious knowledge is the rules and behavior that a religion gives their god (but thinks that god gives them). Gods are made in man's image (though man thinks that he is made in gods image). If there was really only one god that controlled things with any reasonable degree of intelligence and he wanted us to have a certain religion there would be only one religion. But since there are many very different religions with many different gods with many different characteristics, either the god or gods do not care what we believe or they have very limited power and knowledge with very limited effects on humans and the world overall.

Religious knowledge is not scientific knowledge. It does not have to be coherent, understandable, useful, caring, etc. It can be any thing that the religion wants itself to be. A religion is more than what people want, it is part of the culture that is passed on from generation to generation with all the oddities that our ancestors have added with their varied personalities including disassociated personalities. There are underlying unifying aspects of religions. For instance, they do believe that they serve some important functions. They believe that certain things have to be done by people to maintain the order of the universe. Whether it is going to church and having certain beliefs and thoughts or sacrificing children to satisfy the gods. All that is necessary is that people believe that the religion's ideas and rituals are important and necessary. There is no way to disprove religious beliefs because they are axiomatically true without question. Plus question a religion and you could be killed for any religious or political reason. However, being able to adapt to a religion (culture) shows that you are willing and able to get along within a society and be part of that society. It makes you one of "us" rather than one of "them".

The problem with religious knowledge is that it is not necessarily knowledge about the reality that people actually exist in. We can imagine an awarepaducer that creates religious awarepaths that is not directly connected to reality. To do this you have to have the actual science and technology that allows us to do this. If a religious belief system is in control, that is not supportive of the advancement of scientific knowledge, survival of this religious belief system will eventually die out (maybe with all of rest of mankind) and the creation of these religious awarepaducers can never be created. Religious awarepaducers allow for the existence of many whole religious communities that are not beset by troubles that frequently exist in the real world. There can be positive religious communities that can be created by awarepaducers where every one is happy to be in that reality. Awarepaducer can also produce religious communities that have all extremely unhappy people. It is very likely that almost everyone have versions of themselves that believe in religious belief systems. Some of these versions will be very happy in their religious life and some will not be. Most will be some where in between. Usually a belief system that makes enough of the peoples lives miserable does not survive for very long.

Religious awarepaducers can create complete realities based on the religious beliefs and practices. Lets say that you want to have a catholic society produced by an awarepaducer. An awarepaducer could produce the sensepath, individually or as a group, for each individual that is created by the awarepaducer. Within this sensepath can be any desired proof of the religion that is desired. Rather than just having faith in gods existence you can actually see him, see heaven, see hell, etc. There can be ghosts, souls, angels etc., that are real and the science of the reality show all this to be true. On top of all of this to make a positive awarepaths you can make it so that they do not have a desire to sin, so they are always feeling good about themselves and their religion. Of course, any possible tweet can be added to the scenario. Lets say you want sinners and you want them to suffer. Since the reality is created the sinners can be created as well. The "sinners" will be just part of the sensepath (not real conscious beings) that the religious people experience, but nonetheless the religious people will believe the sinners are real and will also think that their suffering is real also.
