THE IDENTITY THEORY OF CONSCIOUSNESS IN TWO PAGES
The identity theory of consciousness is a theory about consciousness and the mind. The theory is founded on the hypothesis that an identically functioning replica of a person will be conscious, and will have the exact same mind or consciousness as the original. This hypothesis is based on our current scientific knowledge of how the brain works, and what the mind is. There are two important terms that this theory defines: first, the mental path or mentapath. It is the path that the mind or consciousness takes over time. The second term is the physical path or physipath it is the sequence of physical changes that the body goes through. Each person has a mentapath and a physipath that corresponds to his life. A persons mentapath is the defining representation for all mental things that happen to that person. The mentapath and the physipath can be defined mathematically as precisely as desired using the theocept. A theocept that defines a mentapath is a mentocept. And a theocept that defines a physipath is a physocept. Physocepts and mentocepts can be mathematically manipulated in any number of ways. Mentocepts and physocepts can be produced that can uniquely represent any person that exists, has existed, or will exist. It can also represent any being that does or can exist in the universe. The science that deals with theocepts and all of their mathematics is Mathematical Epistemology. The science that deals with mentapaths and physipaths are Mentapathology and physipathology respectively. The science that deals with the interconnecting of mentapaths with physipaths is the science of Menidentology. More than one physipath can produce one mentapath this hypothesis is called the Reduction Theory of Consciousness. A physifield is a grouping of physipaths, and a mentafield is a grouping of mentapaths. The Continuum Hypothesis of Consciousness states that there exists mentafields and physifields that form continuums and sometimes these mentafields and physifields overlap and can be mapped for the entire fields. The mentafield that represents all human consciousness is a continuum of human mentapaths. Some objective results; If the Identity Theory of Consciousness is correct, it is possible that there exists any number of possible identical mentapaths through out the universe and through out time. The result of the Reduction Theory and Continuum Hypothesis is that there can exist physipaths that produce mentapaths that are different in any amount of any mental aspect from any other mentapaths. Some subjective results, there can be in the universe through out time any number of other people (physipaths) that have the same identical or only slightly different consciousness (mentapaths). Memory is based on the functioning of the brain not what the brain has done or been, this is called the Memory Paradox.
Two identically functioning bodies will produce the same consciousness. This is the basic premise of the Identity Theory. A mentapath is a term that defines the path of consciousness through time. Two identical mentapaths represent the same mentality. A physipath is a term that defines the path of a bodies physical change through time. Two identical functioning bodies produce the same physipath. The reduction theory of consciousness states that two different physipaths can produce the same mentapath. Consciousness are the qualities of a person that make him unique and important to himself and to others.
