Multipurpose neuron

What if neurons serve many different purposes not just one single purpose is a nervous system that produce consciousness. Imagine a certain behavior of a neuron. Maybe it is doing simultaneous functioning low level functioning and high level functioning with in the same functioning. So may be the neuron is creating a high level signal and a low level signal. how can this be done? certain part of the behavior of the neuron may have meaning and the other part will have meaning in a different way. Certain functioning may have not effect on a lower system but has a higher level function it does. The functioning of the neuron will have different meaning for each type of consciousness that it is effecting.
