The Basic Materialist Argument Against Life After Death   1.  We lose consciousness whenever the brain is not functioning in the right way (e.g. when we are “knocked out” by a blow to the head, when the supply of oxygen to the brain is interrupted, or when we are “put under” by general anesthetic).   2.  We do not regain consciousness until the brain is once again functioning properly.   3.  When we die, the brain shuts down for good. It will not be functioning properly ever again.   4.  Therefore, when we die, we undergo a permanent loss of consciousness (i.e. no life after death).

The assumption in the above stated proof is that your consciousness is tied to one particular brain. But superimmortality predicts that your consciousness is tied to the structure and functioning of matter not to one changing particular piece of matter.

Lets do an experiment. Let say that if the brain did not stop functioning for a period of time it would have changed its structure. Now lets take the brain that did stop functioning and give it the structure and functioning that it would have had if it has not stopped functioning for that period of time. It will not have any reason to believe that she did not exist for that period of time because she would have memories of consciously existing for that period of time. Plus she would have learned new things and improved in some skills and abilities.

Your body is replaced with a different body with the same structure and functioning that it would have had if it was not unconsciousness. Having the behavior of the original It says that he was not unconsciousness it acts like it was the original with all of the memories, abilities, knowledge, that the original has. We know because the original is has the same behavior because it has the same structure and functioning but in a different body. But it is not the same person. Yes they are not the same person but hey are producing the same behavior, consciousness, and ixperiencitness.

Your brain does not function in the right way for a period of time. During this period of time no conscious is produced. The structure and functioning of the brain upon restoration of proper functioning has been changed in such a way that you have memories of being in another body that is a different version of you with different memories, experiences, skills, etc. Now you have direct evidence that there are other version of you even though it is just your brain creating this awaresection. Any brain including your brain produces a consciousness based on the way it is structured and then functions

The Basic Argument (maybe) Against Life After Death

1.  We lose consciousness whenever the brain is not functioning in the right way.   2.  We do not regain consciousness until the brain is once again functioning properly.   3.  When we die, the brain shuts down maybe for good. It may not be functioning ever again.   4.  Therefore, when we die, we may undergo a permanent loss of consciousness (i.e. maybe there is no life after death for some conscious beings).

The Specific Argument (maybe) Against Life After Death

1.  I lose consciousness whenever my brain is not functioning in the right way.   2.  I do not regain consciousness until my brain is once again functioning properly.   3.  When I die, the brain shuts down maybe for good. It might not function in a way that produces a consciousness that I experience ever again.   4.  Therefore, when I die, I may undergo a permanent loss of consciousness (i.e. there might be no life after death for me).

4.  Therefore, when I die, I may undergo a permanent loss of consciousness (i.e. there might be no life after death for me) unless the proper structure and functioning of the body and brain is restored.

The Basic Materialist Argument for Possible Life After Death

1.  We (the different conscious versions of me) do not all lose consciousness whenever one brain is not functioning in the right way.   2.  This one brain will not regain consciousness until the brain is once again functioning properly with the right structure.   3.  When this brain/body dies, it might shut down for good. It may not function ever again. But this brain's shut down alone usually will not effect the functioning of other brains that produce a consciousness that I am or will experience.   4.  Therefore, when some of the bodies that produce a conscious that I experience die, we will not all undergo a loss of consciousness (i.e. there is life after death for some versions of me when other versions of me die).

The Extended Materialist Argument for Possible Life After Death

1.  We (the different conscious versions of me) do not have to all exist at the same place, time, or made of the same matter. These current and future conscious versions of me do not all lose consciousness whenever one or more brains no longer function in the right ways.

2.  These brains will not regain consciousness until the brain is once again functioning properly with the right structure.

3.  When these brains/bodies die, they might shut down for good. They may not function ever again. But When these brains no longer function properly to produce a conscious that you experience these facts alone usually will not effect the functioning of all the other brains that produce a consciousness that I am or will be experiencing.

4.  Therefore, when some of the bodies that produce a conscious that I experience die, we will not all undergo a loss of consciousness forever (i.e. there can be life after death for some present and future versions of me when other versions of me die).
