Fidentireplica experiments
Imagine a fidentireplica where part of the brain is disconnected and placed at some distance from the rest of the brain and body, All the neurons are not directly connected to the disconnected brain but indirectly connected by radio digital signals so that they communicate like they are still together. The body will still behave exactly like the original with out the fragmentation. So when we ask the fidentireplica what it think fell etc. It will always respond the same the actions will always be the same. When we look at the internal working of the brain it will be exactly like the originals. Now we make several identical external fragments and connect them so that their functioning can replace the originals fragments functioning with out interruption or change in the originals body and half brain functioning. The question is there a difference in the consciousness produced when the disconnected brain fragments are switched? If there is not change in consciousness this is supporting evidence that it is not the matter that is import but the structure and functioning. If there is a difference the person can not report it because the functioning that produces his speech will not have changed from what the original would have said.
We can continue the experiment by not only making several copies of the fragmented brain but of the rest of the body as well. So lets say that we now have five brain fragments and five bodies with the rest of the brain. Of course there could be any number. The set up now is that the body and brain part of the fidentireplica will function identically and the split brain portions will function identically to each other as well. All are connected to a device that can redirect the signals from one portion to another. So body brain fragment 1 can be connected to brain fragment 4 and body brain fragment 3 can be connected to brain fragment 2. Then they can be switched at random. The question is what will be the consciousness produced? If the specific matter is important then the consciousness produced in these switches should produce a different consciousness but we will have no evidence that this happens because in all cases the responses will be the same.
We can do another experiment where the fragments are not connected back to the same fragment that stimulates it So body brain fragment 1 will send the neural signals etc to brain fragment 2 but receive the signals back from brain fragment 3.
The fourth experiment is that of only having one brain fragment for any number of brain body fragments. So one brain fragment produces the signals for any number of brain body segments. Will this cause this cause a difference in the consciousness produced.
There is also be the case where all the signals are combined into one signal before it is divided up into the many signals again so even though there are many original signals there is not way of telling where the signal is coming from.
What ever happens how do we know if there is a difference in consciousness because the observer cannot tell the difference in a way to report it.
Lets take the case where the person knows what is happening to him and we switch in any of the above situations and he responds that yes he feels different now that the switch has happened he continues to describe the difference in great detail. The only problem you did not actually create this switch He only thought that you did and in the process his brain functioning changed in a ways to make the belief happen. Whether it happened or not the telling of it happening can cause the person to think that there is a change.
In this case the person actually has the switch so that they actually control the switching for the above experiments. There is no doubt that he might well think that he is experiencing something different when he switches the bottom to create the experiment. But there is actually a difference in input for the person. It is like being told that your family of loved one were murdered horrible. That little bit of verbal information can change your brain functioning drastically. So might the thought that what is happening to you does have an effect. The person that is told that he can control the switching but is lied to will have the same response of thinking that there was such a change,
Proximity produces more than just neural signals. Proximity produces heat chemicals competition for nutrients etc all of this has to be taken into account as well. There may be only one physical way to produce a specific consciousness. But it is easier to produce the same ixperiencit
