If there is no free will is there no purpose to consciousness?

If there is no free will is there no evolutionary purpose to consciousness?

Why does consciousness have to be an evolutionary development? There are many cases where things just randomly pop up within the genes that are not a determent to, or an advantage to survival. Consciousness might be just one of those things that are survival neutral. Will a non conscious device ever want to create art? Is art something that is needed for survival? If you are not conscious why would you ever create art? But do you have to have free will to actually create art?

Supervisory processing of neurons In many cases it appears that consciousness wants to do something different from what the rest of the body wants to do unconsciously. There is an assumption that there is an over all processing of information that proceeds to one conclusion in the brain. But what it the brain actually is working within the same processing to different contradictory ends? It is parallel processing many different tasks at once a very small difference in processing might mean a very big difference in the outcome behavior or consciousness. If consciousness is just an emergent property or quality of the structure and functioning of the brain it does not have to have evolutionary purpose it can have artistic purpose.

The purpose for consciousness may simply be for the existence of consciousness. It might be that the universe wants to be aware of itself. What meaning does red have with out consciousness? Consciousness gives meaning to the world. Consciousness gives beauty to the world. How can you make something that actually has free will without stating it has free will in its definition?

The idea that consciousness gives meaning to many things gives meaning to itself. The idea that consciousness gives meaning to many things gives purpose to itself. The idea that consciousness gives purpose to many things gives purpose to itself.

Consciousness seems to want to perpetuate itself. Consciousness seems to want to enhance itself. Consciousness seems to want to make itself beautiful. Consciousness seems to want to make itself wonderful. Consciousness seems to want to make itself amazing. Consciousness seems to want to make itself happy. Consciousness seems to wants to avoid pain. All of these qualities and many more are high level concepts that are in no way clear cut as to what they mean to a consciousness.

One reason that people may argue for free will is they they believe that this will show that there is something more than the body thus life after death is then possible. The problem is that even if we add into the discusion supernatural concepts like souls how does a soul have free will? How can a soul make a different decision if all the conditions that made the soul make the decision in the first place are the same?
