SST represents singular soul theories. Most religions (such as christian and muslim) that are not based on reincarnation are based on singular soul theories. The concept of the soul is the controlling factor for issues of life after death and immortality. If the soul did not exist there would be no life after death according to these type of theories. Consciousness is of secondary importance. Structure and functioning of the body is not of much impotence either because the body is just the temporary holder of the soul.
