Superimmortality and celebrations
People often like celebrations, festivals, and holidays, especially when the event has positive meaning for a community. Many of these events are religious and cultural. These events are frequently connected to gods and life after death. Religious myths are not true but people often have fun or enjoy the diversity and novelty that these events produces for them. There are several major aspects of superimmortality that could be developed into positive useful celebrations. These major ideas are extension, enhancement, multiplicity, divergence, and knowledge. Superimmortality gives us an incredible amount of new knowledge about ourselves that can be used in many positive ways. A day that celebrates the advancement of knowledge would be a very positive event.
Christmas and Easter are secular events that are celebrations that have been coopted by religions that are about the promise immortality. Most cultures have this type of celebration. Immortality corresponds to what superimmortality calls extension. Superimmortality predicts that every life of every conscious being can be extended many different times by producing the one or more of the correct set of structures and functioning of matter. The fact that any conscious life can be extended after death is a very positive thing that can be and should be celebrated. Scientifically produced life after death, that can be controlled without over population or the destruction of any planet's environment, which can give meaning and purpose to all conscious beings lives, should be celebrated so we do not forget how positive this world actually is.
Not only can life be extended it can be enhanced in many different useful ways where you will still experience it. This accomplishment is something that will help us survive into the future. The longer that we, as conscious beings, can survive the more likely you will experience being alive again after death. Superimmortality predicts that if we, through science and technology, enhance any of our bodies we can experience being consciously enhanced as well as bodily enhanced.
This leaves us with two very useful celebrations that tie us together as people and as conscious beings. Divergence of structure and functioning leads to diversity of consciousness. At any moment of your life you could be experiencing any one of an enumerable number of different experiences. Diversity of experiences leads to changes in the structure and functioning of your body which leads to changes in your perception of reality. What superimmortality predicts is that even though you are different than you would have other wise been, you can and will still experience many of these diverse experiences producing different consciousness that you will experience. This would be a celebration of human diversity through the celebration of your potential diversity of consciousnesses.
Multiplicity is what makes the science of superimmortality so different from other religions and philosophies. What multiplicity means is that there can be many different people experiencing different things, existing at the same time, that will produce a consciousness that you can and will experience in the same way as you are experiencing your life this moment. For example, there can be a different people experiencing what you did at any past point in you life. There can be other people experiencing your enhanced lives, other experiencing extensions to your many different shortened lives, and still others experiencing divergent versions of your many different lives. All of these different people are you at the same time experiencing different things. In other words you can experience the consciousness produced by more than one body at a time. However, it is likely, none of your conscious versions of yourself will know, of the existence of each other, and that these other people are actually conscious versions of you. But knowing that you can cause versions of your self to suffer more or less gives to reason to treat other other conscious being better. The celebration of multiplicity will be a celebration of kindness and generosity to others and to the wonders of conscious beings.
