Atheist Experience 414: The meaning of life
"Skepticism is a virtue" is the placard statement in on the table in front of the speakers. Skepticism is defined as doubt as to the truth of something. We should have doubt to the truth of these following stated beliefs because the evidence is so limited.
The meaning of life is very different if you believe that superimmortality is true than if you believe in religions or in the idea that death is final; that you will will never be conscious again. Religious beliefs are that gods controls life after death so you need to make god(s) happy so that you will be conscious again after death and that god will make this life not too uncomfortable. For many non religious people like atheists they do not believe that god exists thus there is no life after death because there is nothing, like a god, that has the ability to recreate life after death for a person.
At 28 minutes into the show Keryn says "A lot of atheists understand - use the fact that we believe this is our one chance at life, we believe there is no after life, there is no second chance, there is no rebirth. So don't screw it up this time because this is the only chance you got. If you are a serial killer and you die on death row you just wasted eternity essentially because that is all you got In the long span of eternity you have less 100 0r less short years to do something. And if you want to sit around in a dark room because there is no reason for you not to that is your choice, but I can't think any reason that you would want to do that.
Russel says at 28: Don't fall into the trap of thinking that life is fair cause it isn't. I am sure that there have been some really bad people that have died that have been rich and powerful and maybe not even that guilty about it
